Our Story

Bigger Than Life Changing!!

Let me take you back to where it all began. It was December 2009, a time when I was brimming with life, energy, and independence. I was employed at one of the country’s largest hardware chains, fully engrossed in my role as an Administrative Manager – a position that I enjoyed, but ultimately contributed to me turning into a workaholic. I relished the interactions with employees, customers, and the chaos that came with the job.

However, one fateful morning while walking an aisle at work, an unsettling feeling overcame me, and I suddenly collapsed, hitting the floor. The next thing I knew, I found myself in the back of an ambulance, en-route to the hospital.

Waking up in the hospital, the doctors delivered the sobering news: I needed a major brain surgery to save my life. My initial reaction was oh sh*t with a mix of shock and concern about my body’s condition. They had performed a CT scan (with the consent of my parents) which detected that a large mass, the size of a softball, was attached to my brain stem and spinal cord and that it was potentially cancerous. I immediately went into a complicated surgery and my family was informed that I may not make it out.  The surgery took around 10 hours to complete and I survived! It turned out that the mass was benign (thank God) sparing me from a cancerous fate that could have left me six feet under.

Post-surgery, I embarked on the journey of rehabilitation, starting from the basics to recover from a traumatic brain injury. I had to relearn walking (with terrible balance), eating, and bathing – all the essential activities of daily life. Walking proved to be the most challenging for me, and for the next five years, I underwent physical, occupational and speech therapy. To aid in my everyday life, I embraced the best smart home devices and explored various types of technology and cool accessories, including smart life gadgets and other things that make life easier. It has now been 15 years since my surgery and I navigate life with double vision, a severe speech impediment, and difficulty walking due to unstable balance. This has proven to be bigger than life changing from my healthy independent pre-surgery self to my now daily challenges. Through this process, I learned the boundaries of what I could and couldn’t do.

I firmly believe in the power of hard work and unwavering confidence. I am now using my experience to help others find products that make life easier, smart home devices, and cool tech gadgets through my virtual store front, Retail Shop 77.  My story is a testament to the mantra: never say you can’t – believe that you can.
